Again: Piracy (ie. ROMs) is preservation. Piracy is archives. Piracy is art-affirming in a world which devalues and abandons art.https://t.co/4H2SbzpSaM — Srsly Wrong Podcast (@SrslyWrong) July 14, 2023ALT

I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.

Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!

Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.

TLDR; don’t give tumblr money until they start making visible improvements towards accessibility

I’ve seen a few posts around about something people are calling crab day where you’re supposed to gift the crab button to your mutuals to support Tumblr financially. Please don’t participate in this unless Tumblr starts making noticeable improvements towards accessibility between now and then. It’s been 5 months of me trying to get the bare minimum of accessibility for photosensitive users or even just find out who I can talk to to get anywhere, and Tumblr is refusing to make any changes.

@photomatt has doubled down on the suggestion that you should just pay for ad-free or install an ad-blocker instead of listening to any of the suggestions photosensitive users have repeatedly made. Please do not give money to Tumblr until they show a commitment to accessibility because they will continue to ignore our requests if it doesn’t impact them financially.

Some of the requests we’ve made are:

1. Allow us to disable autoplay on browser as well as the app. This is an accessibility feature, not a data-saving feature, and should be treated as such.

2. Include ads in disabling of autoplay, along with other formats that currently get around the autoplay feature. Currently even if you have autoplay disabled you can still end up with flashing lights in your face every few posts from ads.

3. Improve the reporting process for strobing ads. The quick reporting process doesn’t provide good options to ensure the person reviewing the report realizes that it’s being reported for flashing lights so you have to hope they agree it’s either malicious or offensive and don’t just brush you off as abusing the report function. The more complicated reporting process involves getting a screenshot and the link that the ad brings you to, which requires lingering on the ad, which if you’re trying to report the ad for your safety, is dangerous. You can also still get the same ad 10 times a row after reporting it until it’s been reviewed. Which again, presents a danger to users.

4. Add a community label for flashing lights. Flashing lights are commonly untagged or mistagged, even sometimes maliciously. It would be extremely helpful to the photosensitive community to be able to add a warning to a post that doesn’t have one.

I’ve talked a lot about the photosensitive community in this post because that’s what I have personal experience with and what @photomatt has explicitly come out and just said to buy ad-free about, but there are definitely other accessibility issues that need to be addressed as well (like the alt text function needing improvements to make it accessible to users who need it and don’t use screenreaders, or the fact that a lot of tumblr official stuff still doesn’t seem to use the alt text feature themselves). Please feel free to add on accessibility issues I’ve missed in the reblogs.

Found a cool non-glitch way to get more rupees and its literally to just collect EVERYTHING that are inside caves. Especially mining for ores and get every single brightbloom seed.

When you go to sell to an npc (I go w Beedle) brightbloom seeds cost around 3 rupees. WHICH ik it doesn’t sound like a lot but if you have more than 100 brightbloom seeds in your inventory it can work pretty well. This is a method I did in BotW with Bokoblin horns and I would get a couple hundred rupees by almost selling all my Bokoblin horns. I did try to do the same bokoblin horn method in totk but it is a little tricky but it also is worth 3 rupees each with red bokoblin horns. I think its more efficient selling red Bokoblin horns later on when you’re much stronger, but I also think its good to keep some of them to pack an extra punch on shooting arrows.

For ores saving up on your amber to sell it is also just as efficient and maybe quicker to get more money than to collect every single brightbloom seed. I am currently holding on to all my amber as early in the Goron City quest there’s a Gerudo npc that would offer to buy your amber at a slightly higher price than other npcs

I will try that! See how it’s goes in my playthough

you want to help stop tumblr from murdering itself? here's how!

  • click this link and go to the support page, then click "contact support"
  • click on the category list and click on feedback
image
  • now you need to tell staff WHY putting in an algorithm will cause the site to fucking die, and be sure to be detailed and not a dick in it. theyre not gonna listen to feedback calling them assholes
  • viola, if @staff listens, we'll be fine

i encourage you to reblog this so we can get as many people leaving feedback as humanly possible. we need to let staff know this is an utterly terrible idea

tf2heritageposts

by the way, tumblr has turned off asks on all of their staff blogs, so this is the only way to tell tumblr how you feel

DO NOT REPOST ART

idk in which language i have to say this for y’all to understand

DO NOT REPOST ART

i dont CARE if you credited the artist i dont CARE if u found it on pinterest i don’t CARE if you found it on instagram i don’t CARE if u found it laying in the corner of the sidewalk i don’t give a shit. it’s simply not yours to take and post without permission

repeat with me. you can repost only. and i mean ONLY. if the artist has given you explicit permission BEFOREHAND, asking them after you reposted does absolutely nothing. nada. nisba. niente. zero. it’s even worse.

(and permissions to repost are not blanket statements. if an artist is ok with reposting it doesn’t mean that another artist will be too, if you have the go-ahead to repost a certain art doesn’t mean that the permission extends to the rest of the artist’s work as well. “oh but i thought—“ i don’t cARE. ASK EVERY TIME.)

PLEASE begging to show even a crumb of respect for artists/writers/creators and their work it really is not that difficult

Hi everyone new to tumblr!! Here’s a quick tip to make your time here more enjoyable!!

Go into your settings, go to dashboard, turn off “best stuff first”, “stuff in your orbit”, “based on your likes”, and turn ON “snooze tumblr live” (its shit and we all hate it)

image

Go to blogs (below gifts in the setting), and turn off “share likes” and “share who you follow”. Basically everyone does this and tbh its weirder to see people’s likes than not on this site

image

and finally!! Do not be afraid to block people!! Bad opinion? Blocked. Bad vibes? Blocked. Curate your blog and dash into something YOU enjoy.

It's been brought to my attention that the proposed Tumblr blackout is actually going to be harmful for disabled folks, as it removes the ability to have users fix improperly tagged content and will decrease the reach of Disability Pride Month content.

So I'm not going to be stepping away this week.

This is an issue that several people have tried to mention to the one who proposed the blackout, and the message has been repeatedly ignored. Though the blackout had an impact on Reddit, the truth of it is that Tumblr is not Reddit and so we likely need to use different methods.

Please do not join the blackout. It will actually harm those with disabilities, because it will prevent many people from seeing and spreading disability awareness content.

Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for the understanding.

So I've seen the tumblr blackout post as well as a bunch of people pointing out that it's not the best idea (tumblr doesn't work like reddit so everyone leaving for a while won't actually be that effective and starting during disability month means we're cutting off a ton of disabled people from talking to people/potentially fundraising during disability pride month) But I don't think I've seen people attempt to organize a different plan so here's this:

Lets all be as annoying as fuck

Starting June 30th and extending into disability pride month we should turn off/unsubscribe from any tumblr prime(?), use adblockers, avoid interacting with any promotions they're making and algorithmic content and send blogs like @staff and @wip a ton of shit

If a ton of users each take a minute a day to send a few asks to different staff blogs, reply/reblog posts with complaints, and make posts @ing some staff blogs I believe we can make a huge flood and completely overwhelm them with the fact that we want things to change, we don't have to individually spam them, everyone can just do a little bit.

...To be honest I don't think this post will make it very far and im not the most confident in this specific plan, but I want to get the idea out there, I think we should definitely be doing something to try and take the site back and make sure they don't keep making things worse, we need to let them know that we won't put up with them ignoring us. This site is for the users and we will take it back.
